Miss Suomi (also known as Miss Finland) is the annual national beauty pageant of Finland responsible for selecting Finland's representatives for three of the Big 4 international pageants, being Miss World, Universe & Miss International.
Miss Suomi, which commenced in 1931, is the most important beauty pageant of Finland. Since the year 1964, the winner of Miss Suomi competes in Miss Universe 2014, the first runner-up goes to Miss World and the second runner-up goes to Miss International.
Finland has till date won two Miss Universe, one Miss World and one Miss International title. Armi Kuusela of Finland won the first ever edition of Miss Universe held on June 28' 1952. She was just 17 when she was crowned Miss Universe 1952. Finland won its second Miss Universe title after a gap of 23 years, when 19-years old Anne Marie Pohtamo was crowned Miss Universe 1975 on July 19' 1975. This was the last Miss Universe title won by Finland till date.
Like Miss Universe, Finland also tasted early success at Miss World, winning the 7 edition of the pageant when Marita Lindahl (23) was crowned Miss World 1957 on October 14' 1957. But since then Finland has not won any Miss World title. Also, Finland won its only Miss International title till date in 1973, when Anneli Björkling was crowned Miss International 1973 on October 13' 1973.
It is almost 40 years that Finland has not won any of the three major international pageants.
Miss Suomi 2014 winners and the reigning queens are Bea Toivonen (Miss Universe Finland 2014), Krista Haapalainen (Miss World Finland 2014) and Milla Romppanen (Miss International Finland 2014), who will crown their successors at the finals of Miss Suomi 2015.
