Miss Universe Malaysia is the country’s premiere pageant and Reality TV event conducted annually. Started in 1962, and revamped in 2010, it is conceptualized to provide a platform for young, ambitious Malaysian women to represent their nation on the international stage, that is Miss Universe.
Miss Universe Malaysia is the longest running pageant in Malaysia, which has crowned these women who have done Malaysia proud - Datin Josephine Fonseka, Yasmin Yusoff, Datuk Anna Lim, Elaine Daly, Andrea Fonseka, Nadine Ann Thomas, Deborah Henry, Kimberley Leggett and Carey Ng. The woman who wears the Miss Universe Malaysia crown is not just a "beauty queen" but a role model for young women and an ambassador for Malaysia on the international stage.
Malaysia has so far not been so successful at the Miss Universe pageant, with no titles to its credit. The best placement for Malaysia was in the year 1978, when Yasmin Yusoff managed to place Top 15 at the finals.
Miss Universe Malaysia 2014 was Sabrina Beneett, who was crowned the winner at the finals of the pageant held on December 19' 2013. She represented Malaysia at Miss Universe 2014 pageant held on January 25' 2015, however could not make it to the Top 10 finalists.
The Miss Universe Malaysia 2015 was held on April 17' 2015. Vanessa Tevi was crowned as the winner and represent Malaysia at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, held on December 20' 2015 in Las Vegas.
Kiran Jassal was crowned as Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 by the outgoing titleholder, Vanessa Tevi Kumares in the glistening coronation gala held on January 30’ 2016 after beating 13 other crown contenders in the Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel.
