Miss USA 2016 Deshauna Barber christens Carnival Vista, cheers for Operation Homefront

Deshauna Barber, the first woman serving the US military to be crowned at a beauty pageant, had been named the godmother of the newest and biggest ship of Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival Vista. The Miss USA 2016 christens the ship on November 04 at an event held in New York.

Superstar Carrie Underwood was also present with the 26 years old beauty at the overnight gala which celebrated Operation Homefront, a project to fund ex-soldiers as well as those serving the military, as well as their families.

Carnival Vista is considered to be the most innovative ship, with capacity of around 4,000 passengers, as well as amazing facilities. According to the beauty, there were more than 700 military families at the event who enjoyed all the amenities on the ship and then later watched Carrie Underwood in concert. It was amazing.

The beauty who is managing both her duties as a logistics commander of 988 Quarter Master detachment out of Rockville, Maryland as well as that of Miss USA has grown up with values of commitment and sacrifice for her country. Her military family has been an inspiration for entering the military. The beauty explains how she balanced studies with the role of a soldier, “I joined the military through my alma mater, Virginia State University, and went through our Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program to commission as an officer.”

On being a beauty pageant winner Deshauna says’ “Being from a military family we didn’t really get to wear the big dresses. I didn’t really have a girly life. So pageants gave me a chance to feel womanly and feminine, elegant and strong.” The discipline involved in military and all the other qualities she imbibed from the military definitely made her strong, that today, she has become such a great inspiration for so many girls all over the country.
