Nicaragua has sailed on its ship to explore its representative for Miss Universe 2016 edition. After the exhaustive castings, the organization came up with 12 beautiful candidates from different provinces of the country. The finale of Miss Nicaragua pageant is slated to be held on 5’ March 2016 whereby Daniela Torres will crown her successor at the Rubén Darío National Theater.

The Miss Nicaragua contest is the national beauty pageant of Nicaragua and is a franchise of SILHUETAS, a renowned modeling agency. The pageant has been held since 1955 and is responsible for selecting the country's representatives to Miss Universe and Miss International. The winner goes to Miss Universe and the first runner-up to Miss International.

This year, Bianca Gutierrez, Brianny Chamorro, Fabiola Rodriguez, Fracela Gutierrez, Jahaira Rosales, Jeimy Lopez, Karla Luna, Katiuska Velez, Maria Jose Salazar, Marina Jacoby, Michelle Lacayo and Virginia Chow are vying to fill in the shoes of the reigning Miss Universe Nicaragua, Daniela Torres.

For the past couple of years the pageant has had the theme of "León, pasado maravilloso... presente esperanzador... futuro luminoso" meaning “León, Wonderful past... Hopeful present... Luminous future".

Despite only having had only three Miss Universe Semifinalists to date, Nicaragua has done well in other international beauty pageants. Margarita Cuadra Lacayo earned nation’s highest placement at Miss International wherein she was titled as the 2nd Runner-Up in Miss International 1969. The country has produced six placements since its participation at Miss International. The majority of Miss Nicaragua winners have been from Managua province.
