Savvy Shields from Arkansas crowned as Miss America 2017

At the conclusion of the Miss America 2017 pageant finale held on 11th September 2016 Savvy Shields from Arkansas was crowned as the winner. Savvy succeeds Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell.

21 years old Savvy is a Jazz dancer and also won the talent competition on the second night of preliminaries with a jazz dance to a song from the TV show “Smash.” At the same pageant, Rachel Wyatt from South Carolina was adjudged first runner-up, Camille Sims from New York was titled second runner-up, Alicia Cooper from Washington made it to the third runner-up and Laura Lee Lewis from Mississippi finished as fourth runner-up.

Miss America Organisation is a non-profit organization that controls and oversees the local, state, and national competition framework and hosts the annual Miss America Competition and telecast. Miss America is a scholarship pageant that is held annually and is open to women from the United States between the ages of 17 and 24.

Miss Missouri Erin O’Flaherty who openly announced as being the first gay contestant, was not chosen as one of the top 15 finalists in Sunday night’s nationally televised pageant. The Top 15 finalists for the night were - Kentucky; Washington; Massachusetts; Arkansas; South Carolina; Idaho; Iowa; Texas; California; Oklahoma; Maryland; New York; Tennessee; Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Savvy Shields now takes up the responsibilities of Miss America and will now be travelling around as the reigning queen, fulfilling her duties and responsibilities.
