The contestants of the Miss Earth 2016 pageant visited the City Hall on October 18 in order to meet the Tacloban City’s Mayor. Mayor Cristina, Vice-Mayor Jerry Yaokasin, and other government officials welcomed the Miss Earth 2016 ambassadors with keenness and interest.
Among the contestants, there were Ms. Colombia Michelle Gomez, Ms. Japan Ami Hachiya, Ms. Nigeria Chioma Precious Obiadi, Ms. Sweden Cloie Skarne, and Ms. Russia Alexandra Cherepanova. Tacloban City was on the list of cities Miss Earth is touring in the Philippines during their pre-pageant journey.
The ambassadors had visited the city in order to promote their environmental policy of following the 5 R’s, which are namely, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Respect.
Mayor Cristina has initiated environmental programs such as Limpyo Tacloban and the Clean, Green and Resilient Project. The beauty delegates’ visit to the city marked a boost in ecotourism. They enjoyed tree planting at the City Hall grounds and had also visited the Yolanda sites near Tacloban.
Miss Earth 2016 will be held on October 29’ 2016 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City in Metro Manila, Philippines. Miss Earth 2015, Angelia Ong will crown her successor.
