After successfully conquering the Miss Earth 2016 crown amidst various controversies, Katherine Espin is finally back to her country. On 7th December 2016, Katherine reached the airport of Guayaquil, and was welcomed by fans with lots of cheers and excitement. Family, fans and friends crowded at the exit gate of the airport and to Katherine’s surprise everyone was cheering and hooting her name out loud.

Katherine defeated 83 contestants to clinch the title of Miss Earth 2016. The 23 year old is a lawyer by profession and is the second Ecuadorian to have won the title. Katherine travelled to Manila right after her crowning, one month in advance, so she can start with her duties right away. According to Katherine, her reign is going to be her year of commitments and dedication towards various international projects, environmental advocacies and other social works.

Although, she shared that she is happy to be back home and meet her family with whom she can spend some quality calm time. She was also surprised to see so many people. "I never imagined this reception," said Katherine. Last in 2011, Ecuador won the Miss Earth title. This year, Katherine’s crowning was followed by various controversial issues regarding her yellow gown, and many other things. Overcoming all the controversies, Katherine has been successfully fulfilling her duties as Miss Earth.
