Miss Earth 2016 finale has been a roller coaster ride of controversies after Philippines bet Imelda Schweighart could not make it to the Top 16. It all started with an evening gown, and eventually led to Imelda resigning as Miss Philippines Earth 2016. So much has been said and done in these few days, and the world has been waiting to hear from the winner, Katherine Espín.
Katherine has finally broken her silence and speaks up on the resignation of Imelda Schweighart as Miss Philippines Earth. In an interview with the official media partner of Miss Earth, ABS-CBN News', Katherine said that keeping all things aside, she respects Katherine’s decision of quitting the pageant.

"I believe that each one of us has her own decision towards life, whether you want to do something or not. She is a woman; she has dreams. If she decided this, it's her decision. She's a grown up already and she knows what best for her," Espin said. "I've heard some rumors, some things that aren't going on. I don't know why it's happening but I respect her as a woman and I will eventually clarify all the rumors, we will clarify so there will be no misunderstanding," she concluded.
Espín also talked about her reign and said that she is all excited to start it. "I am very committed to work as Miss Earth. I have so many projects in mind. I really want to dedicate the whole year on working for the environment. I will leave everything else in my life and just focus on my reign as Miss Earth."

After Imelda’s resignation, first runner-up Kiara Giel Gregorio will take up Imelda’s duties as the new Miss Philippines Earth 2016.
