Press Conference with Miss Earth 2016 contestants

The contestants of Miss Earth 2016 beauty pageant were heartily welcomed by the Iligan city councillor and mayor who delivered their welcome speeches for the contestants who had come to the St. Michael's College to talk about climate changes and its hazards.

Miss Earth pageant is an annual international beauty contest which aims at creating environmental awareness through its ambassadors by spreading the message of Restoration and Reforestation. It has adopted a policy of preaching the 5Rs, namely Rethink, Reuse, Reduce, Recycle, and Respect in order to help minimize carbon footprints.

At the press conference, the contestants were asked how they would describe Mother Earth, to which Miss Earth Romania 2016, Crina Stinca, replied that it is the Mother Earth which provides us with life and food, while Miss Earth Iraq 2016, Suzan Amer Sulaimani, said that we are responsible to do everything we can to make sure that Earth is a suitable place for both humans and animals. Miss Earth Denmark 2016, Klaudia Parsberg, took aid of science to explain how this planet is the only one to sustain life because of its perfect environment, and therefore, any climate change can seriously affect human life. She also continued by saying that we should all respect Mother Earth just as we respect each other.

When asked if the contestants have heard Mother Earth cry, Miss World England 2016, Luissa Burton, replied to the question by saying, “Thank you for that question. Yes. I have seen mother earth cry. I come from an area in England which is a coastal area that is affected by flooding and while I have being here I am receiving messages from home about hearing about all time floods and to me the increasing flooding, increasing weather that we are seeing with the rain and the hurricanes coming more and more that to me is mother earth crying and we need to take this as a signal to change climate change now and I am so thankful to be here at miss earth to be the bestest to change that. Thank you so much!”

Other contestants present at the press conference were Miss Earth Chinese Taipei 2016 Joanne Peng, Miss Earth Zimbabwe 2016 Sharon Enkromelle, Miss Earth Pakistan 2016 Anzhelika Tahir, and Miss Earth Hungary 2016 Eszter Oczella. They were very excited to be present in the lands of waterfalls and beauty, the Iligan city of Philippines, where they are scheduled to stay for some more days.

Miss Earth 2016 will be held on 29th October 2016 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City of Philippines where Miss Earth 2015 Angelia Ong will crown her successor.
