Miss Earth 2016 concluded on 29th October 2016 with the crowning of Ecuadorian beauty Katherine Espín. Despite of Miss Ecuador winning the title, Miss Philippines Imelda Schweighart somehow managed to grab the limelight. The Filipino beauty failed to make it to the Top 16 finalists list. But right after the finale concluded, Imelda was caught on video telling her supporters that everything about the winning candidate Katherine Espin of Ecuador was “fake.”

The video was posted on youtube drew negative comments from netizens all over and people were disgusted by Schweighart’s sourgraping attitude.

Miss Universe Philippines 1985 Joyce Ann Burton was also among those who strongly opposed Imelda’s behaviour and immediately posted an apology to Miss Ecuador on her own Facebook page.

“I’m so sorry for the bad behavior of our representative. I just saw the video where she was mocking you. I was so embarrassed. Filipina beauty queens are NOT like that. Even our more out-spoken queens are never that bastos. I am so appalled that I hope your pageant organization investigates the matter. And I hope that in spite of her inhospitable drama you would still feel welcome here. Much love to you and congratulations for your win!!!,” Burton posted.

Well this wasn’t enough, Imelda posted a video of herself wearing a gold gown she said was made for her by designer Leo Almodal. To our surprise, the gown was the same gown that Miss Ecuador wore during the finals. So it seems, since Imelda could not make it to the finalists list, the evening gown initially made for her was passed on to Ecuador instead.

Imelda has been surrounded by controversy for various reasons. Previously, during one of her Facebook Live chats, Imelda compared President Rodrigo Duterte to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler in an awkward conversation with Miss Austria Kimberly Budinsky.

Imelda Schweighart focussed too much on issues that were not important, and went too far on wondering what people think of her. Hence, she could dedicate very less time to the pageant and the activities. However, during the Press Presentation of Miss Earth 2016, Imelda along with Miss Ecuador, won the Darling of The Press Award. But, eventually Imelda kept on losing the game. On the other hand, Miss Ecuador Katherine Espín dominated most of the pre-pageant events, winning the most medals (three gold, one silver and one bronze) including the gold in the Long Gown and Resorts Wear competition.

At the same pageant, Miss Colombia Michelle Alejandra Gómezwas titled the Miss Earth Air 2016, Miss Venezuela Stephanie Ysabel de Zorzi was adjudged the Miss Earth Water 2016, and Miss Brazil Bruna Zanardo finished as the Miss Earth Fire 2016.
