The Miss Grand International 2016 beauty pageant titleholder Ariska Putri Pertiwi looked happy and poised giving her first official interview post winning the beauty pageant which was held on 25th October’ 2016 at the Westgate International Theater, Westgate Las Vegas, in Nevada, USA. The 21 years of age, medical student of University Islamic of North Sumatra, Indonesia who was crowned as Claire Elizabeth Parker’s successor from 76 contestants who competed for the title, changed history for her country by winning the first-ever title for Indonesia at an international beauty pageant.
The beauty shares quirky secrets such as having to live in military camp with her parents, and about Quinanta Claudia Syafira, her 5 year old sister who calls her Utti. Her mother does charity works at the Army’s Wife Organization. Born of an Indonesian military officer who has worked for his country for 20 years, Ariska always wanted to make the country proud of her.
“I was born in Aceh and when I was three years old I moved to Malang and then Tanjung Pinang, after that I moved to Tembilahan, yes a lot of places (Laughing) not all yet, still moved to Pasaman, Padang, Sianta and the last is Medan city! So many places,” says the Miss Grand International winner.
The title did not come easy to Ariska. She had joined a modeling school when she was in high school. During college, she participated at the Puteri Indonesia North Sumatera 2014 and even after brushing up her modeling skills through the training, she could only land at the second runner up position. Her passions and her mom’s dreams give her inspiration to try again and work hard, finally getting her the Puteri Indonesia North Sumatera 2015 crown and contributing to her incredible win at the national pageant Puteri Indonesia 2016, as well the country’s first ever international pageant.
The beauty who is now living in Thailand for her reigning year as the Miss Grand International beauty queen shares candidly, “I think this is my beginning; it’s like… oh my god! I’m very lonely, I miss my mom and my family, but it’s ok because I, myself, always fight for my dream and now I have already reached it. So, ok, I have to fight for one year for Indonesia my country, for my family and of course for Miss Grand International Organization.”
