The whole world predicted Kylie Verzosa’s win at the Miss International 2016. But would you believe us if we tell you that Kylie never thought she would win? Yes, the Pinoy beauty revealed during one of her homecoming interviews that she was not expecting to win the title. So when the host announced her as the winner, she could not believe it.

On Friday, during a press conference held at a Quezon City hotel, Kylie said, “When the first runner-up was being called, when the host was announcing ‘first runner-up,’ in my head I was saying ‘OK na ito (this is OK with me), you can call my name na.’” However, when Australia’s Alexandra Britton was announced as the first runner-up, Verzosa thought the crown would go to the candidate from either Poland or Mexico. She even confessed that “Poland is a really beautiful girl.”
But the moment when Kylie was announced as the winner, Verzosa was shocked and exclaimed, “Are you sure?” “I really could not believe it. I wasn’t prepared for that moment. Had I been prepared, I could’ve taken better pictures,” she said. In another interview, Kylie also talked about her relationship status and said that she is not sad despite of not having a love life. According to Kylie, “You have to focus on yourself first and love will come.”
Kylie feels that her duties as Miss International comes first and that love can wait, and this definitely doesn’t mean that she is closing the doors on love. “I’m saving all my energy for my career. I want to focus on my reign but I am open to it if it comes,” she said.
Verzosa also shared her excitement of coming back to Philippines and said that among the things she is excited about is her homecoming in Ilocos next month. Kylie Verzosa, who is an advocate for depression and suicide awareness, is the sixth Filipina to bring home the Miss International crown for the Philippines.
