21 years old Tayla Skye Robinson hailing from Johannesburg, Gauteng is one of the finalists of Miss South Africa 2016. Tayla is an Honours student in Marketing at the University of Pretoria and a Ballet Teacher. She has been watching the Miss South Africa pageant ever since she was a little girl and has always wanted to compete. “It would be a privilege for me to be in that position and continue to be a role model to young girls and woman of South Africa. 1978’s Margaret Gardner brought home the Miss Universe Crown. Most recently Rolene Strauss, Miss World, put South Africa back in the news after winning what we all knew she could. I believe that I have what it takes to uphold the pride of South Africa whilst maintaining our beautiful country as a symbol of excellence on the international scale.”

Her favourite Miss South Africa is Rolene Strauss. Two years ago when Tayla joined the Miss South Africa pageant, she got the chance to stay with Rolene and that’s how she got to know her more and better. “I was lucky to meet Rolene and spend a week with her. She inspired me from day one. Her humility, focus and passion for our country were evident in her daily routine,” says Tayla.

Tayla is inspired by the South African business woman, Maria Ramos. “She is a prime example of the adage, ‘Nothing is impossible. Considering her disadvantaged youth I find her success and drive inspiring. Regardless of any difficulties she may have faced, today, she is now one of South Africa's most influential businesswomen of our time. I admire women who dedicate their lives to hard work with the intention of achieving their goals.”

According to Tayla, spare time means luxury time and she spends most of her free time teaching ballet at primary and nursery schools in Pretoria. “I also enjoy a dance class of my own every now and then. In the evenings I have started to learn to produce music on computer software. I'm currently working on a song with local band front man, Tristan Coetzee, from the December Streets.

When asked, if she has a special message for the young aspiring models in South Africa, Tayla says, “Being beautiful starts from within. Don't let society or media influence the way you feel about yourself. Embrace your natural beauty. We are privileged to live as free equal human beings in South Africa and as woman, we must welcome that privilege and live happily and in harmony with one another and the environment that surrounds us.” Who do you think will succeed Liesl Laurie as the next Miss South Africa?
