Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan farewell

As Miss USA, it has been a year full of ups and downs for Olivia Jordan. The lady enjoyed all the perks of being the Miss USA 2015 – attending various events and activities, living in a lavish New York Apartment ,and also the most glorious of all, winning the second runner-up spot at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. But it wasn’t all roses for this beauty queen. The beauty queen oozing with poise and elegance faced a controversy regarding her age. Olivia was 26 when she got crowned. As the beauty turned 27 post her crowning, Olivia grabbed some flacks for her age. But Jordan’s response only proved that she is a true beauty queen who is also strongly opinionated. Her response to all the hate messages was...

For all those that tell me I'm "too old" to be Miss Universe or even to hold my current title as Miss USA, please clarify what you mean by that...

Do you mean I'm too old to advocate for important global causes like Child Sex trafficking or HIV/AIDS? To lobby in DC for Ovarian Cancer? To hold my own on CNN and turn a conversation from negativity towards pageantry into advocacy for the Alzheimer's Association? Or is it that I'm too old to visit schools with the message to work hard and be nice to others? Am I too old to inspire others to be confident in their own skin? Or too old to inspire everyone to follow their wildest dreams no matter how many times they fail along the way? Or is it that your view of beauty is so limited that it somehow expires before the ripe age of 27? Or even worse, is your ageism an undertone of your outdated sexism and you feel that my career aspirations have a time limit so I can focus on other things like getting married and pregnant? If you are going to judge me for my age, at least attempt to give a valid argument why you have decided that my dreams should have an expiration date.

If you agree with me that ageism in our society needs to be squashed, then leave your comments below on how YOU have IMPROVED with age. Because I assure you, while I may have more cellulite and smile lines than I did at 22... I have lived, loved, learned and become a stronger version of myself than I was even last year. I find growth to be more beautiful than anything. Always learning. Always growing. Always expanding my consciousness. There is power in aging. Thank you to all my empowered friends that remind me of this and for people like J Lo that literally only get better with age. (loosely related photo of me being annoyed and sans Botox by @yveshuy)

Finally, the beauty queen is about to complete her reign and will now be crowning her rightful successor. Below are few moments that were Olivia’s favourite from her reign as Miss USA 2015. So glance down at Olivia’s three best moments from her reign, as shared by Olivia herself...

Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan farewell

1. Lobbying for the Alzheimer’s Association in Washington DC.

“I got to go to DC with my dad, Bob Thomas, a proud advocate for 20 years.  It really showed how one individual can truly make a difference.  It was an incredible experience to work with Senators and Congressman.  It was a beautiful full circle moment to work with my dad on a cause he has worked passionately on for so many years of his life.  It’s really devastating to know that many cases of Alzheimer’s are women who are primary caretakers, so it was a good feeling pushing to make a change.  The goal is to have a cure by 2025.”

2. Going to the Philippines with my roommate and Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach

“I love to travel. It’s always my goal to see the world.  To go with my friend and roommate, Pia, and see her home with the love that the people showed us was magical.  People went out of their way to speak to me and make me feel comfortable, they did everything with love and respect.  It was such a life changing trip.  I will say, my favorite foods were the definitely the mangos.”

3. Sundance!

As an actress, it’s always been a goal of mine to be in a Sundance Film.  Meeting some of the actors and directors while listening to Q/A’s was really inspiring for what’s next in my journey.  It’s the only place you can go to a premiere in snow boots and jeans.  I look forward to making big moves as an actress, so it was reassuring to see that transformation happen with the people and actors I met at Sundance.  My favorite movies are definitely comedies, my favorite is for sure Wedding Crashers.

My advice for the next Miss USA is to not have any expectations. If you can just enjoy the journey for what it is, you will appreciate the blessings so much more. You can work hard and dream big of what you want, but don’t have any expectations of what it should be because that will help you enjoy the process.”

Olivia Jordan, Miss USA 2015 will always be remembered as a beautiful, jovial beauty queen with gorgeously inquisitive eyes and a smile to hold you through all your fears!!
