Miss USA 2016 Deshauna Barber and Miss Teen USA 2016 Karlie Hay took out time to visit the Instituto Nacional de Pediatria and spent time with children with cleft lip and palate in Mexico. The beauty queens visited the hospital's facilities in order to learn about this congenital malformation that affects thousands of infants in Mexico. The two were accompanied by Miss Universe Mexico 2016 Kristal Silva.

The beauties were accompanied by the specialists, doctors, INP authorities and representatives of the organisation Smile Train. The beauty queen talked to the children and their parents in order to know the problem and how they coped with the situation, and also details about the medical support they have been receiving. They also took out time to visit the operation theatre and see how the surgery is performed.
Deshauna Barber shared her experience and shared that it was a pleasure to be a part of all the activities. Deshauna has previously worked with the team, but this was her first time when she met the patients. “Hopefully, as public figures, we will have an impact so that more people receive the right information,"said Deshauna Barber.
"We are here voluntarily and not as part of our work, because we very much enjoy knowing the patients, their families and not only taking the information to spread it, but embracing it in the heart as a humanitarian work that we have to do, and invite others come together to support, "added Karlie Hay.

Deshauna Barber stressed that the role of all Miss Universe beauties is to promote good health. "We believe that women nourish themselves properly, and not only be beautiful on the outside, but also healthy on the inside, exercise and also seek to maintain a healthy mind," she said.
