It’s been long since we have heard from the American queen Deshauna Barber. Yes, we are talking about the Miss USA 2016. The beauty queen recently had her homecoming at Virginia State University.

Deshauna is a 2011 graduate of Virginia State University. 26 years old Deshauna headed to her campus on Friday to meet the current contestants and spent some quality time there talking to the students and teachers.  Hundreds of ex-students returned to the campus to celebrate the reunion.

Barber talked about her journey after graduation and expressed her motivation that kept her going in life. "Perseverance is probably the biggest thing I had to learn. I realize that it takes a lot of tenacity to be successful in life," said Barber. "You have to be able to bounce back. And I ran into a lot of obstacles here at the university, whether it's bad grades or whether it is just distractions or bad interactions, whatever the case may be. I really had to learn to be able to fight through to get to graduation and also to be commissioned as an officer through the Trojan Warrior Battalion here at the university. And it is the same characteristic I needed to become Miss USA," she continued.

There is a lot to admire about this lady. She is not just a Miss USA, but is also a a company commander in the U.S. Army Reserve, and has worked as an I-T Business Analyst at the Department of Commerce. She will be representing the USA at the Miss Universe 2016 pageant slated to be held in January 2017.
