At the conclusion of the finale of Miss Universe Guyana 2016 held on 17th September 2016 at the Grand Ballroom of the Guyana Marriott Hotel Soyini Fraser was crowned as the winner. Soyini succeeds Miss Universe Guyana 2015 Shauna Ramdehan, and will now represent Guyana at the Miss Universe 2016 pageant.
At the same pageant, Rafieya Aasieya Husain was adjudged as the first runner up. Soyini defeated thirteen other delegates to clinch the coveted title. The finalists who competed for the title were - Malika Russell, Soyini Fraser, Iman Jaisingh, Odessa Grogan, Ariella Basdeo, Meleisa Defreitas, Ashley Cameron, Ayana Whitehead, Ashley John, Aysya Kelly, Rafieya Husain, Xamiera Kippins, Denisha Rogers and Keleisha Kelly.

Apart from winning the crown, Soyini has also earned a chance to walk at the World Fashion Show for Peace, which will be held at Gotham Hall, in New York on September 25, 2016. Since 1956, Guyana has been participating at the Miss Universe pageant, but hasn’t won a crown yet.
