The 65th edition of Miss Universe pageant finally comes to a conclusion with the crowning of Iris Mittenaere of France. Iris’ victory was well deserved, but what came as a shock to all was the exclusion of Kenya from the Top 3 finalists. The awkward moment was when during the Q&A round of the Top 6 finalists; Mary Esther was quizzed about the US politics; to be specific about President Donald Trump.

Mary Esther fails to make it to Top 3, reason being Donald Trump?

The Question that was put asked to Miss Kenya was, “Arguably no US president has had a more active 10 days in office. What are you most excited about and what concerns you when it comes to the Presidency of Donald Trump?

Mary Esther Miss Kenya answered, “Politics ... ahh OK let me just start again. Donald Trump, having been elected as the President of the United States, may not have been the choice of many people living in the United States because of the divided support system for the outgoing President Barack Obama, who has supporting an upcoming woman President ... who was supposed to be a woman President Hillary Clinton. So, so many people oppose his position. But I feel that once [Trump] took up his position, he was able to unify the entire nation.”

This was the answer that led to the shocking exclusion of Mary Esther from the Top 3, who was the crowd’s favourite. This exclusion has left fans with multiple reasons. Many suggest if she could have answered the question differently, probably she would have made to the Top 3 list. Unfortunately, the response didn’t sit down well with the judges. But, come to think of it, the Question put forth to her was opinionated and there was no right or wrong that could have resulted to the answer. So, eliminating a contestant because the opinions of the judges’ didn’t match with that of the contestant was not really fair.

In fact, the Twitteratis were left fuming after her elimination and believe that Miss Kenya was robbed in the finale. The Question that arouse in the minds of many was that why would you ask a Kenyan native about American politics? What answer were the judges looking for? Talking about the controversial president is a lose-lose situation.
