Lorraine Marriot extends support to Smile Train Africa

Miss Universe Tanzania 2015 Lorraine Marriot teamed up with Smile Train Africa to spread awareness and advocate children with cleft lips and palates. On March 29’ 2016, Lorraine visited CCBRT hospital, one of Smile Train’s partner hospitals, to see the local surgeons perform life-changing cleft surgeries firsthand.

Now, the Tanzanian beauty queen will be the goodwill ambassador for smile train in Tanzania and will assist organizers to raise awareness of the issues faced by children surviving with untreated clefts.

Smile Train is an international children’s charitable organization with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Millions of children in developing countries with untreated clefts live in isolation, but more importantly, have difficulty eating, breathing and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is simple, and the alteration is immediate. 

The charitable organization also provides trainings, resources and funding to empower local doctors in more than 85 developing countries to proffer free of cost cleft repair surgery and comprehensive cleft care in their own communities.

Lorraine Marriot works as a Tanzanian pilot and a businesswoman, and represented her country at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant held on December 20’ 2015 at the The AXIS in Las Vegas, Nevada, where in, Paulina Vega Miss Universe 2014 crowned her successor Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of Philippines as Miss Universe 2015.

Lorraine Marriot was previously competed at the Miss Grand International 2014 pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, which is where she got her start in modelling.
