Ntandoyenkosi Kunene flaunts her national dress for Miss World 2016, attracts criticism

With exactly one month left for the Miss World 2016 finale, the delegates are giving a final touch up to their wardrobe and themselves. South African beauty Ntandoyenkosi Kunene is all set to represent the country at the 2016 MW pageant and recently flaunted her Miss World National Dress with the motive to give an insight to her fans, but, ended up attracting criticism.

24 years old Ntandoyenkosi Kunene revealed her wardrobe for the pageant, and South Africans are not happy with the national dress saying that there is nothing traditional about the gown. The dress was designed by renowned South African designer JJ Schoeman, who called it “traditional” and claimed it to be inspired by the Mpumalanga sun. Kunene called it “a work of art”, but Twitteratis don’t see it. Schoeman described the main competition dress as follows:

It is an Afrocentric design – a fitted long ball gown in dark champagne with vertical hand-beaded panels in mother of pearl. The Dances costume is designed with the African sunrise in mind. The interview suit is a very dramatic – an off- the-shoulder, fitted jacket in old rose pink with matching pencil skirt. The Designer dress, in peacock blue, is made of heavy embroidered and sequined lace with a tiered skirt detail and a plunging neckline.”

South African actor Florence Masebe expressed her disappointment over the orange outfit and said, “How is it a work of art? Where is it traditional? Is it magnificent?

On the other hand Kunene is really excited about the pageant and expressed her gratitude towards the Miss South Africa Organisation for providing her with the opportunity to learn various things. In case she fails to make it to the Top 5 of Miss World 2016, Kunene will also represent South Africa at the 2016 Miss Universe Pageant to be held in Manila, Philippines, in January 2017.
