16 Nov 2016 | Angelopedia

Philippines sparked a winning spree this year at international beauty pageants. Apart from beauty, these victories are a result of dedication spun with persistence by these beauty queens. From undying determination and optimism, to the utmost preparation and hard work, the winners of Philippines have made every effort towards their triumph.

Till date, the country has performed really well at all major beauty pageants with an amazing number of 13 victories at Big 4 beauty pageants alone. One crown at Miss World, three at Miss Universe and Miss Earth, and six alone at the Miss International beauty pageant. Though, these victories were separated with a number of years, recently it seems that Philippines is determined to seize every opportunity to win a beauty pageant crown.

Taking a look at the past, the country saw its first victory at a Big 4 pageant in 1964 when Gemma Teresa Cruz claimed the Miss International crown. Keeping in mind the Big 4 pageants, surprisingly, Miss World 2013 Megan Young has been the one and only winner from Philippines to win the Miss World title. She was crowned at the age of 23 years at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Indonesia, on September 28, 2013.

Gloria Diaz marked the second international win for the country at the Miss Universe 1969 pageant. After Gloria, 19 years old Margarita Moran won the title on July 21, 1973. The third Philippines’ beauty queen was, of course, beloved Pia Wurtzbach, the reigning Miss Universe 2015.

Philippines is the only country in the history of the Miss Earth beauty pageant to win the title the highest number of times. In the past ten years, the country has claimed the crown three times.  Karla Henry was crowned on November 9, 2008; Jamie Herrell won the title on November 29, 2014, and last year Angelia Ong made news on her spectacular win on December 5, 2015. The country might as well complete its hat-trick this year in December! Well, we’re sure they are on it.

Gemma Teresa Cruz claimed the first Miss International crown in 1964. After her, Philippines contestant upgraded their sash on 5 occasions- at Miss International 1970, later again in 1979, then in 2005 and 2013, with the latest conquest on October 27 this year, when Kylie Verzosa winning the title as well as millions of hearts at Tokyo, Japan.

So, what is different this year? How are the gorgeous ladies from Philippines’ breaking all records to be placed as the Top contestants at almost all the pageants? Surely, it’s their inspiration, Miss Universe Pia, and the special focus which Philippines’ franchises give to their contestants when it comes to grooming them in every which way that can take them closer to the crown.
