The 65th Miss Universe pageant has concluded with the crowning of Iris Mittenaere as Miss Universe 2016. The finale was a glittering ceremony with the presence of many prominent personalities. One of the eminent personalities for the night was Sushmita Sen, who graced the glamorous finale as one of the judges.
After the crowning of Iris, Sushmita Sen made a promise to the winner when she said that she will forever be loved by the Filipino people. Sen gave the message to the French beauty during an interview with Mav Gonzales in Unang Balita. "I wish Miss France a great year of reign. But more importantly, she will have Philippines that will love her because I know this feeling," Sen said.
She further added, "If you win in the Philippines, you will have the love of the Philippines for all your life.” Talking about the winner, Sen said that she and the other judges were all praises for Iris and were really impressed by her way of expressing, despite not knowing how to speak in English. "Miss France had this incredible accent. She couldn't speak English properly but we like the fact that she expressed herself very well," Sen said.

Sen also has a word of advice for the newly crowned. She said, "There will be a lot of pressure to be a Barbie doll. Keep it real. People love beauty that is approachable, that is real, and that will impact lives for a long time," she added. Sushmita also talked about Philippines’ bet Maxine Medina and said that despite missing the Top 3 slot, she did manage to make the Philippines proud. "Maxine was under a lot of pressure. Every time she walked on stage, it erupted in the stadium," she said.
She finally thanked Philippines for the warm welcome and also showed her desire to come back to the country with her daughters in future.
