A California native, Wang Hyun who was crowned Miss Korea USA last year, won the coveted title of Miss World Korea 2015 pageant on Saturday, 12’ December 2015 in Gangwon, South Korea. Wang will now go on to represent South Korea at the Miss World beauty pageant in 2016. She succeeds Jung Eun-ju who is right now vying for the title of Miss World 2015 in Sanya, China.

After the crowning, Wang was so ecstatic that she could not believe she actually won! She said she had not expected to win the crown, gleefully expressing: “I’m thankful for this huge title and will do my best to spread the beauty of Korea from now on.” Wang expressed her gratitude to her father without whom she believes, she could never win the title. Her father encouraged her to join the pageant and even took care of her schedule for her, she told the paparazzi.

The 20 years old beauty queen hails from United States of America originally. Wang, who has taken a break from her sophomore year in college, said she plans to come back to America to finish her degree after she completes her duties as Miss World Korea. She expressed: “My current dream or goal is not to become a celebrity. My major is art, so I’d like to find work doing art and design.”

Korea has never won the Miss World crown. Nonetheless, Korea has a reputable placement record with few notable placements and special awards. Last time when Korea came close to the crown was in 1988 when Choi Yeon-hee was adjudged as the 1st Runner Up in Miss World 2009. Analogously, Kim Joo-ri was declared as the Continental Queen of Asia and Oceania in Miss World 2011.

While Miss World 2016 is rumored to take place in Korea, do you expect Wang Hyun’s placement in the coming edition of Miss World?
