Maria da Glória Carvalho from Brazil was crowned Miss International 1968 on 9th October 1968 in Tokyo, Japan. She was just 18 years of age when she won the title and bested 48 other contestants at the finale. Its said that her knowledge of the Japanese language helped her win over the audience and ultimately got her the crown. 1968 was a special year for Brazil as the nation also saw the crowning of Miss Universe 1968 Martha Vasconcellos.
