Polina Popova crowned as Miss Russia 2017

Miss Russia 2017 finale was held on 15th April 2017, with a total of 50 finalists competing for the coveted title. Polina Popova was crowned as the winner at the conclusion of the gala coronation. Polina represented Sverdlovsk region and managed to defeat the 49 hopefuls to clinch the coveted crown worth $ 1 million.

Polina succeeds Yana Dobrovolskaya, and will now hopefully represent Russia at the Miss World 2017 pageant. Last year Yana represented Russia at the 2016 Miss World Pageant in Washington D.C. Although she was considered as a favourite, she did not place.

At the same pageant, Kseniya Alexandrova of Moscow was titled first runner-up, and Albina Akhtyamova of Rep of Bashkortostan was adjudged second runner-up. Both the runners-up received college scholarships. According to the reports, one of the runners-up will be selected to represent Russia at the Miss Universe pageant.

The finale concluded at concert hall Barvikha Luxury Village in Moscow. In addition to winning the crown, Polina also received a cash prize of 3 million rubles, a car, and the opportunity to compete at international pageant. 21 year old Polina enjoys playing tennis, and loves cooking. Her favourite book is Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.

The gala coronation was hosted by Miss Russia 2003 Victoria Lopyreva and Maxim Privalov, and featured guest performances from Elka, Stas Piekha, Nyusha, Ani Lorak, and Dmitry Malikov.

Every year, the Miss Russian National Beauty contest meets thousands of women across Russia’s 85 regions, who apply to become one of the 50 final contestants. This year, no applications were received from girls representing North Caucasus republics, but, for the first time, applicants of the Far Eastern Sakhalin Island and northern Russian city of Syktyvkar took part.
