Miss South Africa 2022, 64th edition of Miss South Africa, will be held in August 2022. Lalela Mswane of KwaZulu-Natal will crown her successor at the end of the event finale. The winner will represent South Africa at either Miss Universe 2022, Miss World 2022 or Miss Supranational 2023.
The organization announced Top 30 delegates who have begun their journey at the national contest. In a series of features, lets know more about these delegates. Mphoentle Plaatjie, from Waldrift, Vereeniging in Gauteng, has made it to Top 30.
Mphoentle Plaatjie is 25 years of age and a Governance Trainee with a Master of Laws from the University of Cape Town. Plaatjie considers herself as a powerhouse because she understands that the power she needs to succeed in life lies inside of her. A childhood protégé, Plaatjie completed high school at 16 and earned her first degree at 19.
Plaatjie got the opportunity to be a part of the Presidential Climate Commission’s Just Transition Framework Multistakeholder Conference last week. According to her, climate change is not in the future, the impacts are being felt today with the devastating floods witnessed in KZN.
Plaatjie shared her views on climate change as she quoted, “Over the years we have seen young people become young climate activists such as Ayakha Melithafa and Greta Thunberg. We are an increasingly environmentally conscious generation. If young are going to be inheriting the planet we ought to have a say in how it is shaped. It is important that stakeholders engage young people and have a ground up approach in creating and implementing innovative solutions that combat climate change. The solutions and plans need to coincide with skills development for young people.”
Her favourite things to do include outdoor activities, having game nights with loved ones and watching documentaries in bed all day. Through her participation, Plaatjie wishes to exemplify how young people can achieve their dreams when they choose hope in the face of fear. Her wish has fuelled the activities she does with Her Pride organization and others within her community. She is definitely a strong contender for the national crown with her stunning beauty, her intelligence and a drive to change the world around her.
