17 Dec 2018 | Irina Silva

Philippines, being one of the most competitive countries in the pageant world, has prevented another back to back win from happening as Catriona Gray has been crowned Miss Universe 2018. A back-to-back win is where a country wins the crown consecutively for two years. Miss Universe 2018 witnessed the crowning of Filipina beauty where Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters crowned her successor.

Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters hails from South Africa and this year’s representative Tamaryn Green could have created history if she had won the title. But, Catriona Gray of Philippines won the Miss Universe crown and broke the back to back win for South Africa. Tamaryn Green was adjudged as the first runner-up at the conclusion of the finale.

This is not the first time that the Philippines have broken a back-to-back win for another country. In 2015, Colombia was about to make history but Pia Wurtzbach of Philippines won the title of Miss Universe 2015 while Ariadna Gutiérrez of Colombia was adjudged as the first runner-up. Pia was crowned by Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega of Colombia.
