Miss Universe Belize organization, on 9th January 2021, crowned Iris Salguero as Miss Universe Belize 2020/2021 as she became the official representative of Belize at Miss Universe 2020. The 21-year-old stunner hails from San Pedro.
Growing up in Ambergris Caye in Belize, Iris, as one of twelve siblings, learned the importance of being patient and how to be a team player at a very young age. Then, she had to finance her own education and was proud to graduate as Salutatorian in high school.
Now, Salguero plans to obtain her bachelor’s degree in digital marketing and will plan to open a trade school in her community called ‘Brighter Future’ eventually.
Iris is currently working as a brand ambassador and a model for local businesses owned by female entrepreneurs. The newly crowned Miss Universe Belize 2020/2021 Iris’ mission is to empower the young women in Belize to overcome hardship and accomplish their dreams.
For two years, she was part of S.H.I.N.E, an organization dedicated to building healthy self-esteem for girls aged 12-18.
Iris’ journey has not been as she is a survivor of an abusive relationship. As a national winner, she is now fighting to end violence against women and to be a voice for those women who suffer in silence.
Iris is passionate about the environment and has participated in several clean up campaigns to spread awareness on the importance of protecting the natural resources in her country.
The stunning queen is also not new to the pageantry as she has proudly represented Belize at international platforms as well which includes Miss World 2016, Miss America Latina del Mundo 2018, and Miss Earth 2017. At Miss World 2016, Iris remained unplaced while at Miss Earth 2017, Iris placed in the Top 16 at Intelligence and Environmental Awareness.
On winning the crown, Iris’ took to social media as she said, “Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming love and support that is being shown to me. I hope I made my home town proud by being the first San Pedrana to win The Miss Universe Belize Crown. And to all my Belizean’s, your support means the world to me and makes the difference. This journey isn’t possible without you and know I can count on all of you to help me carry Belize in my heart wherever I go. I am committed to each and everyone of you, I will make you proud. It’s an honor to showcase our jewel to the universe! Our presence will be felt and our countries name will be heard.”
There are chances of Belize winning its first ever Miss Universe crown under Iris Salguero’s delegation as she has the experience as well the talent to win the esteemed crown. If she prepares for her stint with sincerity and dedication, Iris will definitely emerge as a strong contender for the crown.
