Miss Universe Colombia National Director Natalie Ackermann sets forth fluency in English as a priority criteria at casting

It has been an age long debate on the importance of English language towards winning at international pageants. It has been known that not all beauty queens sent to compete in an international pageant can speak English. This is why it becomes a huge challenge for them to answer the final question during the coronation night in English. The final question and answer portion could make or break the candidate as pageants contestants are usually judged in terms of beauty and intelligence.

Established pageants like Miss Universe and Miss World provide translators during this segment, so contestants can just answer in their native language but sometimes the translators fail to convey the thoughts expressed by the contestants in a proper manner as interpreters can just translate the words but not the feelings.

Organizations of participating countries have now started to consider the candidate’s fluency in English language as one of the most important criteria while casting them as delegates. One of the very recent organizations to stipulate the candidate must master in English as they screen for the castings is Miss Universe Colombia.

The casting of Miss Universe Colombia 2021 is approaching and the National Director of Miss Universe Colombia organization Natalie Ackermann affirmed that it is very important for their next representative to be fluent in English. She had announced the same for last year’s screening too but couldn’t stick to it as Miss Universe Colombia Laura Olascuaga Pinto was evidently not fluent with her English speaking skills.

Natalie took to her social media to share the specification as she wrote, “I want to ask all those who wish to compete in Miss Universe Colombia to prepare very very well. This year the casting interview will be in English at 50%. It is very important that we bring a representative who is fluent in the language.” Her message was very clear with the intensions of the organization to be able to be represented by a delegate who can put out their best in every aspect at the universe stage.

It will be interesting to see if the organization abides to the idea or considers the contestants on the basis of their performances instead of the language barriers. Colombia’s performance has been outstanding at the Miss Universe platform with two wins and many runner-ups and finalists over the decades.

Laura Oscaluaga Miss Universe Colombia 2020 was placed among the Top 21 finalists at the recently concluded Miss Universe 2020 with a stellar performance throughout. The Colombian organization has begun its search for the next queen to represent Colombia at the upcoming 70th Miss Universe scheduled to happen in Costa Rica where Andrea Meza of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event.
