The Miss Universe Philippines organization is gearing up for their ride towards Miss Universe 2021 once again this year for the 70th edition as they began their search for the next queen to succeed Rabiya Mateo who made the country proud at the recently concluded Miss Universe 2020 last week.

Many potential names have been floating around the industry as pageant fans and followers have started to curate their wishlists for upcoming pageants and the most buzzed title has been the Miss Universe Philippines 2021. One of the many names is of Beatrice Luigi Gomez, the longest reigning title holder of Binibining Cebu 2020, as she comes through as one of the most potential candidates to represent Philippines at the international platform.

13th January 2021 marked the one year crowning anniversary of Binibining Cebu 2020 Beatruce Luigi Gomez. Beatrice Luigi Gomez performed with excellence and grace at the contest showing why she was an early favourite in every list for the crown and similarly is now making her way into almost all wishlists for this year’s Miss Universe Philippines title.

Beatrice Luigi Gomez was crowned Binibining Cebu 2020 last year as she created history being the third titleholder of the pageant and the first openly lesbian winner. Her win as a title holder was one of the most iconic wins witnessed in the world of pageantry where she proudly announced that she has a girlfriend during the question-and-answer portion of the pageant, coming out at one of the biggest platforms in the universe.

Her question-answer round garnered a lot of appreciation as she was asked what makes her beautiful. The Cebuana beauty answered, “I guess what makes me beautiful is my bravery and being true to myself. To tell you guys honestly, I have a girlfriend, I have tattoos, and I’m very proud of my imperfection, and I guess that what makes me beautiful.”

Her belief of being true to herself and will to help others has been inspiring for many people who admire and follow her. Celebrating her longest reign as a title holder she also shared her feelings as she wrote, “I found courage and inspiration to be out there helping those in need in every little way that I can. I found fulfilment in volunteerism and I found joy in having to finish some projects by myself due to physical contact restrictions. 2020 may have been a tough year but my faith kept me going. God continued to bless me and I believe He did so for a reason. Nothing is more rewarding than knowing you helped someone get past these challenging times.”

As one of her recent ventures, Beatrice have her title as a beauty queen a whole new side. Almost more than a year after winning the title, she made waves on social media anew when she posted photos of her training under the Basic Citizens Military Course.

For a month, this 25-year-old diva spent her Saturdays training, not for her pageant career, but for serving the nation if the need arises. The decision to do so came out of her desire to inspire young girls who dream of becoming beauty queens to know that modern beauty queens are no longer limited to the standards that they used to have and her hope to encourage them to pursue their dreams regardless of what they are most inclined to do even if it is not what is expected of them.

Over the course of her reign as Binibining Cebu 2020, Gomez indeed proved that beauty queens are not just all beauty and glam instead they, too, can be paradigms of skill and bravery. Beatrice’s participation as Miss Universe Philippines 2021 will definitely make the chances stronger for the country to send their ace delegacy at the universe stage.
