South Korea’s memorable placements at Miss World

The delegates from Korea have been known for their strong performance as they boast not only the confidence but also their true culture, values and traditions which helped them to land at the top positions of the pageants. The gorgeous and confident divas who represent Korea are still yet to win the title of Miss World but there have been few memorable placements of the diva at the Miss World pageant.

The gorgeous delegates have shown immense confidence and determination to be a successful role model for the youth and do their bit to change the world. They have been advocating their advocacies till now and its very heart-filling to see how successful and empowering these women are.

Let’s look at the beautiful delegates of Korea who represented their country at Miss World and managed to be placed at top positions.

Choi Yeon-hee represented Korea at Miss World 1988 on 17th November 1988 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. She was adjudged as the first runner-up at the end of the event finale and was highly appreciated for her performance on-stage. The diva’s placement as the first runner-up has been the highest in the history of Korea at Miss World till today. The year 1988, was considered as one of the most prestigious wins for the country as her Miss Universe counterpart, Yoon jung Chang was also hailed as first runner-up at the end of the event finale. Choi was considered as one of the strongest contenders at the competition for the win but unfortunately, she missed her chance by a very close margin.

Eun-young Oh represented Korea at Miss World 2005 on 10th December 2005 at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China. She was placed at Top 6 at the end of the event finale where she won an award for her Beauty with a Purpose project which was to help the elderly people. She also won the Miss World Asia Pacific title, which used to be called "Queen of Asia and Oceania". Oh, was declared the number one favorite by www.globalbeauties.com. Afterwards, she returned to South Korea to earn her degree in major in design. Eun-Young has always been interested in art; her dream is to be a fashion designer.

Joo-ri Kim represented Korea at Miss World on 12th December 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. The diva was placed at the top 16 along with winning Beauty Queen of Asia & Oceania award at the end of the event finale. She later placed in the top 100 at Miss Grand Slam and finished in 56th place due to her semifinal position in Miss World. In 2010, she was guest judge in the final Mister World 2010 beauty pageant in Incheon, South Korea. Kim Joo-ri represented South Korea in the Miss Universe 2010 pageant held on 23th August 2010, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States where she was unplaced. During her stint at Miss World, Joo was appreciated for her ballet dance during the talent round competition as her lithe figure jumping and twirling and smiling left an indelible impression at everyone present at the competition.

Kyung-min Doe represented Korea at Miss World 2011 on 6th November 2011 at the Earls Court Two in London, United Kingdom. She was placed at Top 7 at the end of the event finale but was highly appreciated by the judges as well as the audience for her strong and determined performance on stage. Kyung’s answer to ‘Why Should You Be the Next Miss World?’ received a lot of applauding from the audience as she answered with immense confidence, grace, and will to win the title. She answered, “I think that women should raise not only their outer beauty but also their inner beauty and talents. I believe that by helping people using these talents it is able to make a difference in this world …Be the change if you want to make a difference in this world.”

The delegates of Korea have boasted to be self-assured and determined to win the title and make the people of Korea proud and happy but no one has managed to win the title till date. Last year, Lim Ji-Yeon represented the country at Miss World 2019 on 14th December 2019 at the ExCeL London in London, United Kingdom. Even though she was appreciated for her performance, she wasn’t placed at the pageant.
