Sabahan Wenanita Angang was crowned Miss Malaysia World 2022 at the Sabah International Conventional Centre (SICC) on 27th August 2022. She was 26 years of age when she bested fourteen other delegates to win the national crown and has been preparing, ever since, to represent her country at Miss World 2023.
Wenanita was born and raised in Kota Kinabalu. She received the crown from Miss World Malaysia 2021 Dr Lavanya Sivaji. Miss World 2021 Karolina Bielawska was also present at the coronation night. She is a data scientist who has been advocating and raising awareness on autism through her BWAP project 'Making Sense Malaysia'.
The campaign primarily focuses on raising awareness of the autism community, educational support for the autism community and continual support on rehabilitation programs for the autism community, with the partnership organizations. The aim for the fundraising will be to raise RM50, 000. “The ‘Making Sense Fund’ was created to provide and be part of the positive change within the autistic community. Working alongside many wonderful organizations and individuals during this period of time has given us personal insights, which has opened our eyes and hearts to help create an inclusive society", she quoted.
Wenanita also advocates about hippotherapy, which is a form of horse-riding therapy, to rehabilitate autistic children and persons with cerebral palsy. She said she was captivated to learn how horse riding helps these children to improve their balance after listening to a briefing by doctors at the Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang here. Wenanita holds a bachelor’s degree in information science systems.
On winning Miss World Malaysia 2022 crown, Wenanita shared, "Honestly, I did not anticipate winning anything. I was just focusing on doing my best, because I don't want to regret later. When I was shortlisted for the top six round, in my mind, I just told myself to keep calm as I've already come this far. It is okay. Whatever happens now, I did my best. I was happy with my performance which is all that matters to me. Without their support and advice, I don't see myself succeeding at the international level."
Miss World 2023, the 71st edition of the Miss World, will be held in India in March 2024 where Miss World 2022 Karolina Bielawska of Poland will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.
