Maria Ellul crowned Miss World Malta 2018

Organised by Modelle International, Miss Universe Malta 2018 coronation night at Pjazza Teatru Rjal saw Maria Ellul from Valletta beat 27 other contestants to win the tiltle of Miss Universe Malta 2018. The 19-year-old Maria Ellul succeeds Miss Malta 2017 Michela Galea, and will now represent Malta at the Miss World 2018 pageant later this year, where Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar will crown her successor.

The first runner up was Alexia Tabone, and Tamara Micallef was adjudged the second runner up.

Mr World Malta was also crowned in the same ceremony. Daryl Azzopardi was declared as the winner of Mr World Malta 2018. The 24-year-old will further represent Malta at Mister World 2018 pageant in Philippines next year.

During the contest the sum of 13,000 euro was collected in aid of Dr Klown.

During the finale night of Miss World Malta held in the weekend, the organizers recalled the memory of Christa models in Formosa, who died in an accident two months ago Burmarrad of traffic.

The girl was 23 years and was loved by many.

Christa had participated in Miss Universe Malta 2017, where she posted a two minute video talking about her passion for dance, and even playing the piano. However, her personal message said that she would have to win the competition to help other girls, who do not really believe in themselves, realize that beauty is on the inside.

Apart from being a model, Christa was also a social worker in the foster care unit. A year ago, she celebrated completing her thesis on children whose parents suffer from a mental health condition.

The winners of the national pageant are selected at different competitions as each is owned by a different organization. Usually, the Miss World Malta is held by midsummer every year, and sends the winner of this contest to Miss World to be happened in the later months of the year. The current winner of this pageant is Joanna Galea from Zejtun, 23 years old, who also represented Malta in Miss Italia Nel Mondo 2011 Edition. As of 2018, Malta has claimed only one semi-finalist in Miss World

From 1965-2001, representatives were sent to Miss World under the national pageant, Miss Malta. A new organization had launched in 2002 to send its delegates to the Miss World pageant, under the name, Miss World Malta.

Malta is yet to win its first ever Miss World crown. Will Maria Ellul be the first maltese woman to win the Miss World crown?
