After Donald Trump’s rattle the cage statement on the Mexicans and Latins, we have witnessed a whirlpool of withdrawal and boycotts happening in the world of pageantry. As countries like Mexico and Costa Rica annoucned their withdrawal from the pageant, and former beauty queens stating of boycotting Miss Universe and also the sponsors moving out of the pageant, next we hear is a contestant of Miss Gutaemala 2015 pulling out from the pageant. And the reason stated is Donald Trump.
Sara Guerrero, a contestant of Miss Guatemala 2015, is seriously considering to withdraw her participation from the pageant. The main reason behind this, she states, is the derrogatory remarks made by Donald Trump, owner of the Miss Universe pageant, who called the Mexican immigrants as drug dealers and rapists.
In an interview with El Nuevo Dia, Sara extended her support to her fellow Latinos by pulling out from the pageant. Sara shared her reason for withdrawal on her official Facebook page. She said, “Hello friends. Thanking first all the people who in the last few days have given me countless expressions of support and affection with regard to my personal webpage in miss Guatemala 2015, I wish to inform you that the Miss Guaatemala 2015 pageant winner will be participating in the pageant. My choice is due to the stir after polemical which is now shown with Donald Trump and I prefer not to participate. I think it is lack of morality and dignity that you send a representative of Guatemala to this pageant and enrich more to that organisation of which trump is owner. My identity as a Latina is first, and it makes me have the sensitivity of putting in place of all those people, who every year migrate to USA looking for a better opportunity to come to their families, having to suffer discrimination and countless conditions in that journey. Many of them are people who are workers to which they label "criminals" by the simple fact of their roots. Once again I would like to thank the people who wrote to me and showed up giving me your support”
On June 29’2015 in a late night press release, Mexico’s Grupo Televisa cancelled their business relationship with Trump. This clearly states that Mexico is boycotting the Miss Universe this year. Miss Universe 2015 is rumored to be held in December. NBC and Univision earlier declared that they will no longer air the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants.
