13 Oct 2020 | Priya Bhardwaj

Miss Universe Nepal organization under the direction of Former Miss Nepal Nagma Shreshta is all set to host the grand coronation of Miss Universe Nepal 2020 on 11th December 2020 virtually. The organization has developed a brand new and improvised all in-app to conduct the beauty pageant.

Sujita Basnet has officially confirmed her participation in Miss Universe Nepal 2020 through her social media and the Nepali fans are rejoicing. Since this is her last year in pageantry (due to age limit), this will be her last big step before she retires.

In November 2019, Sujita won the 2nd Runner Up title and Public Choice Award of Miss Maryland USA 2020. Thus, she became the official delegate of Miss Earth USA 2020. Not new to the pageantry, Sujita became the first ever Miss Nepal USA in 2011. In 2016, she was awarded the title of Miss Maryland World 2016 and went onto represent Maryland in Miss World America 2016 where she placed in the Top 12. After that, she placed as the second runner-up at Miss Maryland USA 2020, one of the biggest titles for a Nepali diva to get. She was also the Popular Choice award winner at the competition.

Even though she was not born in Nepal, Sujita has made multiple visits to Nepal as she is a volunteer for several NGOs in the country. Being a part of so many pageants has helped Sujita build her self-esteem, confidence, awareness, and gave her a voice to be herself.

Sujita has the experience and the maturity to represent Nepal with elegance and grace. She also says that if given a chance, Sujita would use her platform to ensure that the voices of women around the world are heard. She said, “We live in times where norms are changing, and the youth are forming their opinions about how they perceive women. If I were given the honor to be Miss Universe 2020, I would use my platform to ensure that the voices of women around the world are heard.”

“Women have started making noise about gender inequality, gender-based assault, lack of representation in leadership, and discrimination based on skin color, body shape and level of femininity. These voices will remain void if they are not heard and actions are not taken. So as a woman holding one of the worlds most honored titled, I as Miss Universe 2020 would use my influence and platform to amplify the voices of the voiceless”, she added.
