Miss South Africa, the national beauty pageant in South Africa, selects South African representatives to compete in two of the Big Four international beauty pageants namely, Miss World and Miss Universe. The organization also selects a representative to participate at Miss Supranational.

The Miss South Africa organization inaugurated a new format in 2018 following which, both a Miss World South Africa and a Miss Universe South Africa were selected as representatives. The current Miss South Africa 2020 is Shudufhadzo Musida. Initially, the winner would represent South Africa at Miss World and/or Miss Universe.

Established in 1956 when Apartheid was prevalent in South Africa, the first official Miss South Africa pageant was only open to white (Caucasian) females as the winner was sent to London for the Miss World. In 1956 Norma Vorster was crowned Miss South Africa but two years later, an 18-year-old secretary from Durban, Penny Coelen, was crowned Miss South Africa 1958 who made history and won Miss World. It was not until 1977 that people of all races were allowed to compete in the Miss South Africa. Prior to that, people of colour competed in the Miss Africa South pageant, which was renamed Miss Black South Africa in 1977.

2021

Miss South Africa 2021, the 63rd edition of Miss South Africa, is all set to be held on 16th October 2021 at the Grand West Arena, Cape Town. Shudufhadzo Musida of Limpopo will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

2020

Miss South Africa 2020, the 62nd edition of the Miss South Africa, was held on 24th October 2020 in The Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town. Shudufhadzo Musida of Limpopo was crowned Miss South Africa 2020 by outgoing titleholder Sasha-Lee Olivier of Gauteng. Thato Mosehle and Natasha Joubert were adjudged first and second runners-up respectively.

After their coronation, it was decided that Shudufhadzo Musida will represent South Africa at Miss World 2020 while Thato Mosehle and Natasha Joubert will represent South Africa at Miss Supranational 2021 and Miss Universe 2021 respectively.

Musida, being the winner, also received prizes in excess of 3 million rand, including a car and one-year free stay in the Miss South Africa official apartment, located in Sandton, Johannesburg. First runner-up Thato Mosehle received R250,000 while Natasha Joubert received R100,000.

2019

Miss South Africa 2019, the 61st edition of the national pageant, was held on 9th August 2019 at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, Gauteng. Zozibini Tunzi of Eastern Cape was crowned Miss South Africa 2019 by Miss South Africa 2018 Tamaryn Green of Western Cape. While Zozibini represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2019 (and won the Miss Universe crown), Sasha-Lee Olivier, who was adjudged first runner-up, represented her country at Miss World 2019.

2018

Miss South Africa 2018, the 60th edition of Miss South Africa, was held on 27th May 2018 at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria. For the first time, two separate delegates were selected to represent South Africa at Miss World and Miss Universe, but only one was crowned Miss South Africa.

At the end of the event finale, Tamaryn Green was crowned Miss South Africa 2018/ Miss Universe South Africa 2018 while Runner-up Thulisa Keyi was elected Miss World South Africa 2018. Green represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2018 where she placed as first Runner-up while Keyi represented South Africa at Miss World 2018, placing in the Top 30.

2017

Miss South Africa 2017, the 59th edition of the Miss South Africa, was held on 26th March 2017 at the Sun City Superbowl. Demi Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss South Africa 2017 at the conclusion of the event finale. Demi-Leigh represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2017 and was crowned as the new Miss Universe while the 1st runner-up Adè van Heerden was crowned Miss World South Africa 2017 and competed at Miss World 2017, finishing in Top 10.

2016

Miss South Africa 2016 was held on 19th March 2016 at the Carnival City's Big Top Arena where twelve contestants from different provinces competed for the crown. Ntandoyenkosi Kunene from Mkhondo was crowned Miss South Africa 2016 by the outgoing title holder, Liesl Laurie Miss South Africa 2015. Kunene represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2016 and Miss World 2016 pageants but remained unplaced.

2015

The finale of Miss South Africa 2015 took place on 29th March 2015 at the Sun City Superbowl. The final was contested by 12 girls who were selected after weeks of challenges at Sun City International. Liesl Laurie from Johannesburg was crowned Miss South Africa 2015 by the outgoing title holder Zipozakhe Zokufa. Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss attended the event, along with Penelope Coelen, Miss World 1958 and Anneline Kriel, Miss World 1974.

2014

Miss South Africa 2014, the 59th edition of the Miss South Africa, was held on 30th March 2014 at Sun City Superbowl. Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World South Africa 2014 who, in the December of the same year, was also crowned Miss World 2014.

After Rolene’s win, Miss South Africa 2014 first runner up Ziphozakhe Zokufa was crowned Miss South Africa 2014 and competed at Miss Universe 2014. The pageant was broadcast on DStv on Mzansi Magic and was hosted by television and radio personality Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp.

2013

2012

Miss South Africa 2012 was held on 9 December 2012 in Sun City, South Africa. At the end of the event finale, Marilyn Ramos from Pretoria was crowned the new queen by Miss South Africa 2012 Melinda Bam. Ramos represented South Africa at Miss Universe 2013 and Miss World 2013 but remained unplaced.

2011

Miss South Africa 2011 was held on 11 December 2011 in Sun City, South Africa. Melinda Bam was crowned Miss South Africa 2011 by the outgoing title holder Bokang Montjane from Johannesburg. She represented South Africa at South Africa at Miss Universe 2012. Although she was supposed to participate in Miss World 2012 as well but could not because if a contestant reaches the top three of the pageant she is not permitted to enter Miss Universe. The 1st princess Remona Moodley represented South Africa at Miss World 2012 instead.
