Rolene Strauss from South Africa, the reigning Miss World, arrived in Mumbai, India yesterday along with Carina Tyrrell Miss World England 2014 for a week-long visit, and the duo were overwhelmed by the traditional welcome received upon their arrival.
As the per the Miss World Organization, their visit will be a fact finding mission to discover potential outreach program collaborations in the areas of poverty and global health, issues which are close to both Carina & Rolene. While this is the second visit to India of Carina, it’s the first ever visit of Rolene to India.
The main focus of their visit to India this time is a lesser known town called Shirpur, which is 400 kms away from Mumbai. Shirpur has an exemplary story of rural transformation from an underprivileged town to an empowered town, and the script of the town's transformation touched Julia Morley, Chairwoman of Miss World organization, and inspired her to plan this expedition for Rolene & Carina. The duo will be seeing various humanitarian projects currently underway in Shirpur, as well as speaking to students at the Narsee Monji Institute of Management Studies.
After spending two days in Shirpur, they will return to Mumbai on April 16th. In Mumbai, they will share their experiences of Shirpur in the Press Conference scheduled in Mumbai upon their return, and the duo will then be visiting several locations in Mumbai.
