Maria Jose Alvarado, the reigning Miss World Honduras, has been found murdered just few days before she was supposed to fly off to London to compete in Miss World 2014 pageant in London. She and her sister Sofia Trinidad disappeared last week on Thursday after they were seen leaving a local party and getting into a vehicle without a license plate.
Both have now been found dead days after going missing in Santa Barbara. Police said they found the bodies of Maria and her sister Sofia on a river bank, after mounting an exhaustive search. Police have arrested a few suspects, and the investigation is ongoing in this kidnapping and murder case.
Honduras is the world's most violent country with a murder rate above 90 people per 100,000, about double the rate of its closest peers Venezuela, Belize and El Salvador.
The very beautiful and full of life Maria was just 19 years of age. She was crowned Señorita Honduras 2014 at the finals of the national pageant held on April 26' 2014.
