Catharina Choi Miss World Brazil 2015 performs at the Rio Olympics

Former Miss World Brazil Catharina Choi Nunes performed at the Rio Olympics last week for the World Taekwondo Federation. Catharina who is a half-Korean is a black belt in the Korean martial arts. She has been the Goodwill Ambassador for the World Taekwondo Federation for over a year, and to perform the sport in front of the entire world was a dream come true for the beauty.

Amidst the world’s greatest Taekwondo athletes, Catharina was invited onto the mats to perform a Taekwondo and traditional Korean dance routine on the first day of the Taekwondo. “I was very nervous as I did not perform in front of so many people before… When I did it as part of my talent show, it was just for the judges,” said Catharina who performed this very same routine at the Miss World 2015.

When Catharina was asked who she would support at the Olympics, Brazil or Korea, she answered, “I have to support Korea, as the Korea team were practicing in my gym in São Paulo.” The beauty queen help engage under privileged communities in her hometown with a program called ‘Don’t run away from fight’, wherein she teaches the sport.

 “In Brazil we have a lot of different social classes, and it is a big problem when kids don’t have opportunities, they go on the wrong path,” said Catharina. “So we teach them Taekwondo, and with the sport of course, they don’t go to drugs and gangs; sit keeps them occupied and helps them, and also when they get a black belt they can start teaching so they can get a job out of it too.”
