Over the years, the Miss Earth pageant has been advocating for environmental awareness, conservation, and social responsibility. Through school tours, tree planting activities, street campaigns, cleanups, speaking engagements, shopping mall tours, media guesting, environmental fairs, storytelling programs for children, eco-fashion shows, and other environmental activities, the reigning titleholders devote their year to promote specific projects and often address issues concerning the environment and other global challenges.
The pageant organization has been consistent with its inspiring themes for many years now. In 2016, the competition was held with the theme ‘Empowered to make a Change’ where Katherine Espín became the second Ecuadorian woman to win the title of Miss Earth.
Miss Earth 2017, the 17th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, with the theme ‘Heroines fighting climate change’, crowned Karen Ibasco of the Philippines as the new queen. This was the fourth time Philippines won Miss Earth.
‘Goddesses of Earth’ competed at the Miss Earth 2018 pageant, at the end of which, Nguy?n Phuong Khánh of Vietnam took home the first Miss Earth crown for the country. 2019 marked the first time Puerto Rico won the Miss Earth title as Nellys Pimental was crowned as the new queen. The theme for this year’s pageant was ‘Flower Power’.
In a pandemic struck world, Miss Earth 2020 marked the first virtual coronation of any major pageant in the world. Lindsey Marie Coffey was crowned the ultimate ‘Eco Angel’, winning the first ever delegate representing the United States to win the coveted crown.
For its 21st edition, Miss Earth took on the theme ‘Colors of the Earth’ to reflect the vast and unique biodiversity of the world. The theme also alluded to the brighter outlook on 2021 coming from a rather bleak 2020 due to the pandemic. Another historic win was bagged by Belize’s Destiny Wagner as Miss Earth 2021.
The Miss Earth 2022 will be the 22nd edition of the Miss Earth pageant which will be held later this year where stunning delegates from all over the world will compete for the international title. The reigning Miss Earth 2021 Destiny Wagner of Belize will crown her successor at the end of the event.
