All about Miss Earth 2021 Destiny Wagner

22 Nov 2021 | Priya Bhardwaj

It was an unparalleled moment of joy for Belize as Destiny Wagner bagged the Miss Earth 2021 crown on 21st November 2021 as the 2021 edition of Miss Earth was held virtually for the second time in a row due to covid-19. It is also the first Big4 international beauty pageants win for Belize.

Destiny Wagner is 25 years of age and stands 170 cm tall. The stunning beauty spent most of her childhood traveling with her parents and sister. For a while, she was homeschooled but later she attended primary schools in the Toledo District, Belize.

Destiny learned to swim before she learned to walk so the Caribbean Sea was her favourite place. While technology was almost nonexistent, she felt more connected to earth. She moved back to the States as a preteen. Destiny is also a certified scuba diver and entrepreneur and author by profession.

On being crowned Miss Earth 2021, Destiny exclaimed, “My country has never placed at Miss Earth before nor have we ever had an international crown. So right now, this is what we needed and I am happy to represent such a gorgeous country. I am overwhelmed right now with emotions. The words and the gratitude, it’s very hard to express. But I am thankful. I am thankful for the Miss Earth Organization and thankful for my team as well.”

Here are the two-parts advocacy of Destiny that she will bring awareness to during her reign –

Sustainability of marine life and conservation of our natural resources

The Manatee research I did with ‘Clear Water Aquarium’ and my interest in the ocean, inspired me to get my Open Water Dive Certification and participate in environmental campaigns. I believe everyone should do their part by protecting Mother Earth so the next generation can reap the benefits we now enjoy

Children's Rights

My family and I have a Non-profit organization in which we supply sustainable meals to children in 3 plus villages for the past 10 years. We provide them with school supplies, toys and resources necessary for them to excel in the classroom.

On being asked what would she do to promote Ecotourism and Climate Change, she suggested, “Take public transportation, carpool, ride a bike to help reduce Carbon Footprints. Limit our single-use plastic, and purchase locally. As far as climate change, we may think that we have a small impact on earth, but we can cause a ripple effect. For instance, we can invest our money responsibly and shop at sustainable companies we can reduce the amount of energy that we use at our house by unplugging appliances, plant you own backyard garden to help you eat fresh.

During the final question and answer portion, Destiny was asked how far can technology go to help save the environmental situation the world is currently in. Destiny said, “I am so thankful to live in a digital age right now. Because of technology, we are able to spread awareness of things that are happening not only in my country but in other countries as well.”

“However, technology can also be used to save our environment because by incorporating innovation and technology as well as sustainability, we can use those two things to come together. I am so thankful to be a woman now in 2021 and be able to have access to these things such as solar energy and renewable energy. When mixed together, there’s nothing that we cannot do. I am thankful to be in the digital age of technology and it will be used to save the planet,” she added.

Congratulations to the newly crowned queen.
