Miss Universe Australia 2020 Maria Thattil has begun her journey to the 69th Miss Universe as she flew off to Florida a few hours ago. Ready to conquer the Universe with her story of unity and love, Maria feels powered by the support she gets. She has set off with a story to tell on the global stage.

Sharing her departure with the world, she took to her social media to wrote, “I consider myself a story-teller. And today, I depart for the U.S. where I plan on telling a story on a global stage. The story of people who are both like me and those who are not - but have once been told they are ‘less than.’ The story of the true Australian spirit and being open to all. The story of the world I believe we can have when we champion inclusivity. My story, our story - I’m ready for the global mic.

The Miss Universe Australia organization also wished her a successful journey on their social media where they mentioned, “AND SHE’S OFF! Wishing our Queen Maria Thattil the absolute BEST of luck (not that’s she’ll need it!) as she embarks on her journey to the INTERNATIONAL Miss Universe FINAL! We are so proud of you Maria and can’t wait to see you OWN IT on that stage!”

Maria also shared her gratitude and swore to “I am going to Miss Universe not as one, and not even as Australia alone, but as the billions of people who’s differences make our world what it is today. You are all in my heart and my guiding strength.”

The diva who is 27-years-old and stands 160 cm tall works in People and Culture for the Victorian government and is also a digital creator and brand ambassador in the beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and empowerment arenas. She mentions, “As an Indian Australian, it is with pride that I represent one of the most multicultural societies on Earth & do it to break down Anglo Celtic perceptions of my country. With a multi-hyphen career, it is with pride that I can’t be boxed in to one ‘job’ - because what I do is fuelled by PURPOSE.”

The determination and dedication of Maria towards being the best version of herself drove her towards working on herself and winning at Miss Universe Australia 2020. The diva mentioned the importance of transcending the message to be yourself; creating a space, so that you can get the job you want, you can be the change you want to see, and it is only with a mind-set that doesn’t internalise inadequacy.

Miss Universe 2020 will be held on 16th May 2021 in Hollywood, Florida. The delegates will be staying at the Hotel Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida, USA. Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.
