Jane Dipika Garrett made history at the finale of Miss Universe Nepal 2023 held at the Godavari Sunrise Convention Center in Nepal on Saturday, 9th September 2023 by becoming the first ever plus-size delegate to win the national crown.

The national organization steered away from conventional beauty pageant rules to crown a body positivity advocate to represent Nepal at Miss Universe 2023. Jane is not just a strong advocate for body positivity but also hormonal health and mental health for women.

Jane is a nurse and business developer by profession. An American-Nepalese, Jane also resided in Washington, D.C. in USA. According to her, being plus-size is not a liability and frequently shares her opinions with people on embracing their bodies.

“As a woman who is curvy and who does not meet certain beauty standards, I'm here to represent women who are curvy, who struggle with weight gain, who struggle with hormonal issues. I believe that there is not only one type of beauty standard but every single woman is beautiful just as she is”, she quotes.

Also at the finale, Garima Ghimire, Buddhisara Sunar, Shitashma Pokharel, and Abhilasha Lamsal were adjudged as the first, second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively. Top 10 semifinalists also included Alista Subedi, Sanskriti Chhetri Karki, Sarosy Neupane, Puja Paudel, and Chanel Shrestha.

Jane succeeds and was crowned by Miss Universe Nepal 2022 Sophiya Bhujel. She will now represent her country Nepal at Miss Universe 2023, the 72nd edition of Miss Universe will be held in El Salvador on 18th November 2023 where R'Bonney Gabriel of USA will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.
