Miss World Guyana 2021: The ‘Victoria Regia’ journey begins

Miss World Guyana Organization is inviting young women of Guyanese heritage who are between the ages of 17 and 26 years old to apply to participate in the annual Miss World Guyana national competition scheduled to commence later this year. The Miss World program is designed to be an excellent vehicle for building confidence, advancing careers and personal goals and in particular leaving a lasting positive legacy. It truly represents female empowerment and serves as a mechanism to showcase national talent.

In addition, representing Guyana on the Miss World stage is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The organization will be giving the world a personal journey beyond the beauty and glamour with our first seasonal series dubbed ‘Victoria Regia’, the blossoming of Guyana's national flower her journey to the Miss World crown. The 12-episode semi reality series will be a boost for tourism in covering our country like never before and feature all the elements of fashion, entertainment, flamboyant judges and unbelievable storytelling, as it promotes the true values and attributes of the Guyanese woman inclusive of the various aspects of preparation, planning, interviews and behind-the-scenes activities. We invite the entire Guyanese community and the diaspora to get involved.

It is an exciting time in the world and an even more exciting time for pageantry in that no one is sitting at the sidelines anymore. Everyone who has an online account --Facebook, Instagram -Youtube --Tik Tok, LinkedIn, etc is in a pageant -- promoting themselves, their skills, talents and beliefs.

“We’re all contributing to the continuity of pageantry in some way or the other”, said the National Director, Natasha Martindale. “More so, we have been creating stars and super women since debuting at Miss World’s Beauty with a Purpose competition in the 1960’s and will continue to do so now on a different level where the entire world is plugged in and watching. Our candidates will be the stars of the show and in support of women in sports & fitness, community development, and promoting the most talented and beautiful Guyanese women. With a top 40 placement in 2019 with Miss World Guyana 2019, Joylyn Conway, Guyana has had tremendous recent successes on the Miss World stage, including top 10 overall finishers by Rafieya Hussain in London in 2014 and Lisa Punch in China in 2015. Perhaps the most notable success story on the Miss World stage can be attributed to Shakira Baksh (Caine) who represented Guyana at Miss World in 1967 and finished third overall. She went on to launch her modelling career in London. The winner of Miss World Guyana 2021 will have the right to represent the country as Miss Guyana at the Miss World 2021 competition to be held in December. Miss World Guyana 2019, Joylyn Conway, will crown her successor.
