At the conclusion of the splendid finale of Miss Belgium 2017 (also known as België 2017), Romanie Schotte was crowned as the winner. Romanie succeeds Miss Belgium 2016 Lenty Frans. AT the same pageant, 20-year-old Delphine Devos from Deerlijk was adjudged first runner-up, and 18-year-old Eva Mira from Saint-Nicolas was placed as second runner-up.

19-year-old Romanie is a student from Bruges and is currently studying Business Management for small and medium businesses. Romanie likes adventure sports and outings. Now that Romanie has won the title, she will put her studies on hold for a year, "It's gonna be a very busy 12 months. I can't grasp it at present. The other candidates were strong. This is a unique moment for me", she said after winning the title. Last year’s winner Lenty Frans has set a benchmark for her successor. Lenty represented Belgium at the Miss World 2016 pageant and won the Continental Queen of Europe award at the pageant.

During her reign, Frans also travelled to Cambodia to work as a volunteer. "I also want to be engaged in this kind of thing", said Romanie. Belgium hasn’t produced any Miss World or Miss Universe winner yet. Although Annelies Törös cracked her way to Top 15 of Miss Universe 2015 and Lenty Frans finished as Top 10 at Miss World 2016, the country has failed to produce a winner in either of the pageants. Miss Belgium has also seen its share of controversies. The election of Alizee Poulicek, a native speaker of French and Czech, was even linked to the 2007 Belgian government formation. She failed to speak in Dutch, the national language of Belgium and was booed by the audience.
