Katherine Espín expressed her happiness after winning the Miss Earth 2016

After being crowned Miss Earth 2016, Katherine Espín of Ecuador became the second contestant from the country to win the title. Katherine expressed her excitement and joy after winning the title and said, “I really want to say to all the girls out there watching this right now everything is possible. You just have to put your heart and soul for it, if you want to accomplish your dream, everything is possible. Dream because dreams come true.”

During the interview after her crowning, Katherine seemed overwhelmed and expressed that she feels blessed and how it was her dream.  She said that she wanted to be Miss Earth since she was 16 years old.  "There was an Ecuadorian named Olga Alava, [who] won the pageant, and I remembered that when I saw her, I saw myself winning and I'm making my dream come true."

Katherine even shared that her stay in the Philippines was the best and was an experience to remember. "People here are so warm-hearted, they have such a nice heart. Everyone is just so polite and they treat us like stars, and I have never been in a country where people are so warm-hearted, and I really want to thank every single people from the Philippines because they have treated me like in my house, in my home,” said Katherine talking about the people of Philippines.

Starting her journey as the Miss Earth 2016, Katherine said, "I want to work. I'm a lawyer and I fight for justice. And I fight for what's good. And now as Miss Earth, I will fight for the environment. I will fight to make a change in the world and to actually have people being conscientious about the environment and the respect that we need towards it.' Katherine's Instagram profile says she is a "future lawyer."

She aspires to work ahead on her advocacy that aims at spreading environmental education among children.
