Miss Angola : Info

Miss Angola is the national pageant of Angola. It selects winners to compete in internationally renowned beauty pageants of the world such as Miss Universe, and Miss World. The pageant was founded in the year 1997. Angola competed at the Miss Universe beauty pageant for the first time in 1998. It has been placed in the top fifteen finalists two times consecutively in 2003 and 2004 and in 2007 the contestant could successfully make it to the Top ten finalists.

Leila Lopes has been the only one Miss Universe from the country and was crowned in 2011. As far as the Miss World beauty pageant is concerned, the country has given remarkable performance there as well. The country made it to the Top 5-6 finalists in the years 2006, 2007, as well as 2008. Stiviandra Oliveira was placed at the sixth position in 2006, Micaela Reis made it to the first runner-up position in 2007 and Brigith dos Santos was adjudged as the third runner-up in 2008. All the three, Stiviandra Oliveira, Micaela Reis, and Brigith dos Santos were titled as the Queen of Africa.

The reigning queen is Luisa Baptista. She represented the province Cuando Cubango and was titled as Miss Universe Angola 2016 on 13’ December 2015 after defeating 16 other contenders. She was crowned by Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes, and succeeded Whitney Shoikongo. She went on to represent her country in Miss Universe 2016.
