Miss Austria (or Miss Österreich) is a national beauty pageant for unmarried women in Austria. Since 1959, the promoter of Miss Austria pageant is Miss Austria Corporation.
In Miss Austria pageant finals, there are total of 18 candidates
- First placed candidates from the 9 federal pageants
- Second placed candidates from 8 federal pageants
- One participant selected through online voting
Winner of the Miss Austria pageant represents Austria in Miss World. In 2013, Ena Kadic, winner of Miss Austria 2013 was sent to Miss World 2013 pageant.
Also, since 2013 another participant of Miss Austria is nominated as Austria's representative to Miss Universe pageant. In 2013, the first runner-up of Miss Austria 2013, Doris Hofmann, represented Austria at Miss Universe 2013 pageant.
First known Miss Austria (title of the pageant unknown) pageant was held in 1929, when the Viennese girl Lisl Goldarbeiter was crowned Austria beauty queen in 1929. Other known Austrian beauty queens of the pre-World War II era were Von Grienberger in 1930, and Herta Van Haentjens in 1931.
Austria has managed to win the Miss World pageant twice - in 1969 and in 1987. Eva Reuber Staier became the first ever Austrian to be crowned Miss World in 1969.
After 18 years, Ulla Weigerstorfer became the second girl from Austria to be crowned Miss World in 1987.
