Puteri Indonesia : Info

Puteri Indonesia (meaning - Princess of Indonesia), aka Miss Universe Indonesia, is the annual beauty pageant in Indonesia, that selects and sends the winner to the Miss Universe international pageant. The Puteri Indonesia pageant was established in 1992 and is considered the oldest pageant in Indonesia. Puteri Indonesia is traditionally held in March, alongside the celebration of International Women's Day.

Puteri Indonesia began crowning a national representative to be sent to Miss Universe from 1993, but by 1996, the winner was forced to withdraw from competing at the Miss Universe pageant by the former First Lady, Mrs. Tien Suharto who was the wife of the late second president of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto. Puteri Indonesia winner was again sent to the Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Supranational, after receiving support and permissions from Megawati Soekarnoputri, who was chosen as the first-ever Female President of Indonesia. In the year 2005, the first runner up of Puteri Indonesia was sent to Miss World, but it lost the franchise of the Miss World in 2006. After going through a series of hits and misses with international pageants, eventually, it was finalised that the three winners will be sent to Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Supranational.
