Miss Nepal (currently known as The Hidden Treasure Miss Nepal) is an annual national pageant of Nepal held in Kathmandu, Nepal since its commencement in 1994. The winner of the pageant competes in Miss World, first runner up competes in Miss Earth and second runner up competes in Miss International.
Kathmandu Jaycees, established in 1970, organized the first Miss Nepal Beauty Pageant in 1994 on the special occasion of Kathmandu Jaycees Silver Jubilee. In 1995, to give the Miss Nepal pageant a more professional approach, senior members of Kathmandu Jaycees who were involved in organizing first Miss Nepal Pageant established The Hidden Treasure, which now annually organizes Miss Nepal Pageants.
Miss Nepal's objective rests on two pillars - personality and leadership development. The organizers are basically in search of a personality that combines beauty, brain, confidence and a positive mind and one who will be able to present Nepal as its worthy ambassador to the outside world. A strong Miss Nepal must also possess interests in empowering women, engage in social service and in promoting issues related to women.
Since 1994, every year women from age range of 19–25 years old compete on the national pageant of Miss Nepal. Contestants are chosen from across the country and they begin on a month long training & grooming course before the final event in which they participate in lectures, social work, photoshoots, interviews and etiquette lessons. On the coronation night, all the candidates engage on opening sequence, introduction speech after which the top 10 semi-finalists are chosen who then compete in an interview portion with the judges and evening gown and the 5 finalists are chosen. This is when the final question and answer round is held. At the end, the names of runners-up and winner are announced.
